The Project

For the 2017 International Day of Peace, MASSIVart collaborated with Sid Lee Collective and Ivanhoe Cambridge to celebrate love and creativity. Our inspiration was drawn from the Bed-In for Peace of 1969, when John Lennon and Yoko Ono occupied the now famous Suite 1742 at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal for eight consecutive days.

To celebrate this iconic movement, 40 beds were displayed in Place Ville Marie Esplanade and encouraged guests to lie down for a cause while Martin Lizotte offered a memorable musical performance to commemorate the special day.

One of the biggest outdoor bed-ins ever held in North America, the program also consisted of a contest and worldwide “call for submissions” to obtain 40 poster designs that also became featured art on the bed sheets. We received hundreds of submissions, curated 40 of them into this event and selected one grand prize winner who received a government arts grant to pursue their dreams.
