An exclusive sneak peek of Burning Man and Sotheby’s charitable auction in Mexico city | MASSIVart - Creative Events & Pop-up Production

MASSIVart Mexico, Burning Man, and Sotheby’s joined forces to unveil a preview of the Mexican artworks selected for their worldwide auction during a unique event in Mexico City on September 23, 2021.

Replicating the energy and creative vibrancy of Burning Man’s DNA, the event supported and promoted an ecosystem of inspiring Mexican artists. The auction preview exhibition, Threshold, was hosted at the historic house of General Prim 30 in the heart of Mexico City. Thirteen artists were featured, most of whom reside in Mexico.

Activations filled the evening from beginning to end. Guests could explore a captivating exhibition by select artists taking part in the auction whose approach and aesthetics are similar to Burning Man’s DNA.

Participants drew inspiration from artists and learned more about their processes through informal conversations with them. The backdrop of Prim provided participants with the opportunity to explore and discover the artwork just as they might in the Black Rock Desert.

For those who enjoy watching artists at work, they could view Furtherrr Collective’s fascinating work during a live painting session. A theatre group surprised the guests and made the evening one to remember with a ritual to honour the land and a dance performance.

Emblematic Burning Man artist, The Mayan Warriors, perfectly recreated the energy of the Burning Man party atmosphere thanks to their music curation. Guests sipped cocktails and indulged in culinary creations made by local producers while taking in the inspiring art surrounding them.

Ephemeral and celebratory in nature, the one-night preview created a sensory experience through music and art, and offered a glimpse into the creative community of Burning Man. MASSIVart is delighted to celebrate Mexican art and culture in a special way.
